Some old Records

Records? LPs? 331/3, 45, 78rpm? 7″, 10″ 12″ ? They are just old vinyl records used by those gramophone or what we called the records players. Of course, now we use CDs or whatever newer technology there are for storing and retrieving of songs and music.

See below an old 7″ record with our National Anthem song on it! You can play on both sides.

Side 1 : Band of Singapore Military Forces.

Side 2 : Singapore Ministry of Education Choir

Below are those flexibe colored acetate records;

This one below shows a Children Songs vinyl record – it came with song sheet too!

ECA of Cedar Girls School

This is probably one of those old ECA (now known as CCA) at Cedar Girls School in 1968. Photo shown both my ‘godsisters’ dressed in the traditional Scottish Highland Kilt dress.

Please correct me if I’m wrong; they are probably performing those Scottish Highland dance. The one on the right with black top was dressed as Man while the other (white) was dressed as Woman. The Man will have a Sporran (pouch) with a long chain round the waist. Also see those long hose (socks) worn by them.

They were probably dancing the Gillie Chalium (sword dance). This is one of the very old ECA and I wonder if such ECA still exists in our school now?

Lantern Festival

In the 60s, the lantern festival on 15th of August (Lunar calendar) is not as commercialise as now. It’s always a time for family gathering like the Chinese New Year.

Besides my favourite Mooncakes, Lantern carrying is not to be missed. Some of us even made our own lanterns; but whatever it’s bought or self-made, it’s usually lighted up by a candle.

Most of us preferred to gather round at the ground floor and hanged the lanterns on the clothes pole hanger. See that pole in the photo below, is the design still the same now?

Kids’ Fashion of the 60s

Very similar to the Batman shirt design. Another Kids’ Fashion of 60s (see the types of sorts and shoes). You may find that my shorts were also very well ironed too.

See those olden chairs that you may still find in some coffee shops. Finally a colored photo taken in 1967.

Batman Fashion

Those were the popular Batman shirt in the 60s for kids. Well, they are still popular now but the cutting of the shirt and quality have changed since then. Too bad, photo at that time still mainly black and white.

You may also see that there were many photos of scenery or people pasted on the cupboard glass door. That was also the “in-thing” at that time.

Another toy

Well this big pull along plastic fish with wheels is my another favourite toy. Seen in this photo taken at 4yrs old (1966), sharing it with my brother.

Birth Certificate

My first documents are probably my Birth Certificates. Maybe people during our time we have 2 copies of such Birth Certificates.

The first copy of Birth Certificate which termed the Duplicate copy is on a poorer quality paper and of red print. This was probably issued within 1 to 2 weeks from birth.

Front Side : You may see at that time, it’s called State of Singapore instead of Republic of Singapore. Also my parents’ Nationality are British Subject though they are also born in Singapore.

Rear Side : The rear side is the Vaccination Notice.

4 years later, I was issued with the Original Birth Certificate (1966). It’s still known as State of Singapore. Not much difference from the current Birth Certificate, at least from one glance at the front.

Rear Side : See the various stamps from Primary School and KK Hospital.
